Moderate to High-Intensity Activity Protects Against Silent Strokes

Recently I wrote about how strength and fitness seems to protect men with hypertension (high blood pressure). This was important because in the past, weight training was viewed with suspicion for men with this condition. Lifting heavy weights does increase, temporarily, your blood pressure, but it seems to help reduce blood pressure over the longer term. The one word of warning would be to make sure your hypertension is "controlled" before you go doing heavy weight lifting and training. (And don't hold your breath in any movement.) Your doctor is the man to say if your hypertension is under control.
