In the Sumo deadlift, you adopt a wide stance with the arms holding the bar inside the line of the feet. You can use the standard wrists and hands over the top of the bar, or you can use the mixed grip with one hand rotated under the bar. Sometimes this helps you to hold onto the bar, but some people have trouble with wrist flexibility.
